Chad Aideit, a popular dance of the
Lyngngam tribe of
Meghalaya, is performed in the honor of a prominent person. During the dance women offer drinks to men. This tradition has ancient roots, when men used to return from a campaign. The dance was performed to entertain them and honor them.
Chad Aideit is marked by the lack of any limit in the number of dancers. The dancers wield swords, shields and bamboo baskets while performing this special dance.
