Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary lies in the south-west corner of
West Sikkim District in
Sikkim.
It spreads over 104 sq km across the Singalila Range. This sanctuary is home to leopard, leopard cat, marbled cat, Himalayan yellow throated marten,
common otter, Himalayan palm civet, Cannidae wild dog,
Indian fox, jackal, Himalayan black bear, wild boar,
red panda and barking deer. Antelope, primates, pheasants and rodents are also found.
Tourist trekker's hut in Barsey provides accommodation.
To reach there, one first drives 160 km from Gangtok via Namchi upto Hilley. From Hilley, it is a four-kilometer trek. Sombaria, which lies about 29 km before the road ends at Hilley, is the last major town.
The sanctuary is west of National Highway 31A and Namchi is connected to the National Highway by state roads.
