Avanangattil Kalari Sree Vishnu Maya Temple

Sree Vishnu Maya Temple is a highly revered shrine situated within the premises of Avanangattu Kalari in Peringottukara village of Thrissur District. The temple is around 25 km west of Thrissur town.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu Maya, an amalgam of 'Shaiva' (a wild-prowess enunciated by Goddess Devi) and 'Vaishnava' (a state of self-restraint and divine-calmness). In other words, Vishnu Maya combines 'Shakti' and 'Sthithi' or more specific 'Maya' and 'Vishnu'. It is believed that the god, guarded by numerous Chathans, is ever committed to the well being of the noble souls and the annihilation of the wicked.

A large number of people throng at the temple on the occasion of Thiravellattu Mahotsavam for the special rituals conducted through the one week. The main highlight is the royal procession of Lord Vishnu Maya. Various cultural programs such as ottan thullal and sangeetha kacheri are staged.

Regular buses connect the temple with Thrissur, Guruvayoor and Kodungallur. Thrissur Railway Station is about 27 km east.
