Maya is a
Sanskrit word which represents the veil of illusion that prevents us from realizing Godhood. In
Hinduism, Maya too is personified as a goddess. The Trinity is also an illusion, because actually the three Supreme Gods of the Trinity are nothing other than the essence of Godhood – formless and without individual characteristics. We see them as three separate Gods performing the duties of creation, preservation and destruction. This illusion too has been created by Maya.
Maya may be defined as the veil that covers our essential nature and the real nature of the world around us. It is not known why Maya exists or when it came into being. Maya ceases to exist when one realises one's divine nature and becomes one with god.
