Annur Manneeswarar Temple




Annur Manneeswarar Temple is one of the oldest and famous temples situated at Annur, in Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu. It is about 32 km from Coimbatore, on the Coimbatore-Satyamangalam Highway. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple enshrines Manneeswarar as the presiding deity. The deity is worshipped in the form of a Shivling.

Other deities worshipped here include Lord Muruga, Lord Ayyappa, Lord Dakshinamurthy, Lord Ganesh and Nagaraja. The temple has separate shrine for Lord Varadaraja Perumal, with His consorts Sridevi and Bhoomi Devi. There are also shrines dedicated to Bhairav and Saneeswaran. The Amman in the temple is also known as Arundava Selvi and Thapothaga Sundari.

It is said that during Treta Yuga the place was named as Vaaniyur and the Shivling enshrined in the temple was known named Vannilingam. Legend has it that, Lord Brahma worshipped the Vannilingam in this temple and got the blessings of the deity. It is also believed that Veda Vyasa got the blessings of Vannilingam.

Annur Manneeswarar Temple can be easily accessed by road from Coimbatore, Satyamangalam, Avinashi and Mettupalayam.
