Amala Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, established in 1978, is a 550 bedded hospital situated at Amalanagar in
Thrissur District of
Kerala. It is located about 8 km west of
Thrissur, overlooking the state highway.
It is a nonprofit, charitable institution aimed at treatment and management of cancer in Central Kerala. Spread over an area of 40 acre, this unique complex has three principal systems of medicine namely Allopathy, Ayurveda and Homeopathy in the same campus.
The hospital campus consists of five mutually complementing units namely Cancer Hospital, General Hospital, Research Centre, Ayurveda Hospital and Homeopathic Centre. It specializes in chemotherapy, radiotherapy, cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, maxillo-facial surgery and dermatology.
The Ayurveda Hospital has an Ayurveda research wing and Ayurveda medicine production unit. It offers panchakarma therapy and special treatments like pizhichil, njavarakizhi, thailadhara, pathrapadaswatham, choornakizhi and balukaswatham for rheumatic disorders, bronchial and allergic asthma and diabetic mellitus.
Amala Hospital also provides research facilities in the subjects of biochemistry, immunology, pharmacology, virology, mycology, tissue culture and cytogenetics. It operates a nursing and paramedical school.
Thrissur Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Cochin International Airport is about 78 km away.
