Alampur




Alampur, home of the Nava Brahma Temples, is situated within a miniature fortress near Kurnool, on the western bank of the Tungabhadra River. It is a group of nine temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, built by Badami Chalukyas. They date back to the 7th century. Bala Brahma temple is the principal shrine of worship.

Alampur is also known for its 84 bathing ghats, 18 sacred places giving holy water, Koti lingas and as Parashurama Kshetram of Lord Parashuram. Goddess Ellamma and Bhudevi is worshiped by the tribes. Goddess Kamakshi and Ekamreshwari adorn the main entrance of Nava Brahma temple. The intricate carvings portray beautiful sculptures of Gods and Goddess in various forms and postures.

Alampur is considered to be the western gateway of Srisailam, the revered Jyotirlinga Shivastalam in Andhra Pradesh. The festival of Shivratri is celebrated with great valor and splendor.

Alampur is located 130 km from Mahabubnagar and 217 km from Hyderabad.
