Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur




Indian Institute of Technology is an autonomous university established in 1950. It lies at Hijli in Kharagpur, 120 km west of Kolkata. The institution can be reached from Kharagpur Railway Station, which is 5 km away.

The institute has eighteen academic departments and five centers. Graduate, post graduate and research courses in technology and science are offered. Advanced facilities are provided. Apart from studies, students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.

The training and placement section handles campus placements and prepares students for pre-placement talks, written tests, interviews and group discussions. Summer practical training is arranged for Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology students.

The old building, Hijli Shahid Bhavan, houses a museum named Nehru Museum of Science and Technology, where you will find technical models from various institutes and organizations in India and abroad.

The institute has two extension campuses at Kolkata and Bhubaneswar (Orissa). Continuing education programs, distance learning courses and guest house accommodations are offered at these campuses.
