Birpara is a small town in
Jalpaiguri District of
West Bengal. Located 118 km from
Siliguri, it covers an area of 900 sq km. The town is surrounded by tea gardens. Most of the people of this region depend on these tea gardens for their livelihood. Besides
Bengalis and Assamese, peoples of different communities such as
Marwaris and Nepalese live here. Gomtu, a town on the Indo-Bhutan border, is about 25 km away from Birpara.
