BBD Bagh or Bibadibag, formerly Dalhousie Square in
Kolkata, was renamed in 1969 after Binoy, Badal and Dinesh, three brothers who were martyred in the Independence struggle. Today, this is the hub of what is known as the Central Business District of Kolkata.
BBD Bagh is a square built around the old Lal Dighi Tank and the nearby garden is a parking area. There are several major buildings around BBD, such as the Writers' Building (West Bengal's secretariat) and the Raj Bhavan, which are the centers of administrative activity.
The domed General Post Office (built in 1864) and the Reserve Bank of India are other buildings that command BBD Bagh. One block away from the square is the Kolkata Police headquarters (at Lal Bazar).
