The Raj Bhavan of
West Bengal is a palatial building built in 1803 by Lord
Wellesley, who was the Governor General of India from 1798 to 1805. It is located at the northern end of the
Maidan, which is one of the most conspicuous vestiges of British Calcutta. The Raj Bhavan is surrounded by a beautiful garden. It houses many rare works of art and other interesting items. Now it is used as the official residence of the Governor of Bengal.
