Sat Tal, literally meaning 'seven lakes', is a group of small lakes nested together, situated 23 km from
Nainital, in
Uttaranchal. The place, perched at an altitude of 1370 m above sea level amidst thick oak forests, has a marked resemblance to Westmoreland of England and hence is a favored tourist spot.
The first lake, as one approaches the Sat Tal, is the old Nal Damyanti Lake. As one moves ahead there is the ashram of Stanley Johns, an American Missionary. The next lake online is the Panna or Garude Lake. On moving down there is a cluster of three lakes named Ram, Lakshman and Sita.
Sat Tal is situated just above
Dharali, just 2 km beyond
Harsil. Lovely campsites are available on the way.
