Pariyar, also known as Pargana, is a town in
Unnao District of
Uttar Pradesh. Situated on the left banks of the
Ganges River, it is 23 km southeast of
Unnao.
Pariyar was founded in the 12th century by a Dikshit Thakur named Himachal Singh. Among the landmarks are Mahua Lake and two ancient temples, of which one is believed to have been built by Lava and Kusha.
The place got its name from a Sanskrit word Parhar, which literally means abandonment. According to local legends, Sita gave birth to Lava and Kusha here. It is also believed to be the place where a war held between Lord Ram and Lava and Kusha during Ashwamedha Yagna (horse sacrifice).
