Sant Kabir Nagar District lies on the eastern belt of
Uttar Pradesh. It got its present name after Sant Kabir, the well known saint and philosopher who lived at Maghar. It is surrounded by
Gorakhpur District in the east,
Basti District in the west,
Siddharthnagar District in the north, and
Ambedkarnagar District in the south. With an area of 1,600 sq km, Sant Kabir Nagar comprises 3 tehsils and 7 development blocks. The headquarters is at
Khalilabad town. The Ghaghra and Rapti are the major rivers.
Majority of the people depend on agriculture. Sugar-cane, maize, paddy, pulses, wheat, barley, gram, peas, lahi, and potato are the major crops. There are about 1,100 small scale industries and 618 village and cottage industries. Paper mills, oil mills, and sugar mills are also located here.
The temperature varies from a maximum of 44oC in summer to a minimum of 9oC in winter season. Sant Kabir Nagar receives an average annual rainfall of 1,166 mm.
Bakhira, Hainsar, Maghar, and Tama are some of the important places.
