Coonoor, 19 km from Ooty, is situated at an altitude of 1,858 m. It is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiri Hills and is a small tea garden town where the weather remains pleasantly cool throughout the year. The place is perfect for trekking and picnic, with grassy spots and spectacular views. Coonoor is famous for bird watching and birds such as vultures, eagles, owls, bulbuls, thrushes, babblers, larks, cuckoos and robins can be spotted here.

The main attraction is the Sim's Park, a small well maintained botanical garden that has several varieties of plants. Lamb`s Rock, 5.5 km away, offers a breathtaking view of the Coimbatore plains. The Shola forest, 12 km away, is crisscrossed by a winding road culminating at Dophin`s Nose viewpoint. The Tea and Tourism Festival is celebrated here every winter.
