Situated at an altitude of 8,000 ft, Tolung Monastery is situated in the sparsely Lepcha populated Dzongu areas of
North Sikkim District. It was built in the early 18th century, during the period of Chogyal Chakdor Namgyal. The monastery houses rare and valuable scriptures and artifacts of other monasteries that were brought here for safety during the invasion of
Sikkim, by the Nepalese during the late 17th and early 19th centuries. The relics are shown to the public once in every three years.
