Pichola is a picturesque lake situated in
Udaipur in
Rajasthan. Legends say that it was created early in the 15th century by a Banjara tribesman, who dammed up the waters of a mountain stream by building a dyke. Later it was enlarged by Maharaja Udai Singh and built a masonry dam known as ‘Badi Pol’. The lake was named after the neighboring village of Picholi. It is a favorite tourist spot. Surrounded by hills, palaces, temples, embankments and bathing ghats, the lake is 4 km long and 3 km wide. It has many islands, prominent among them being Arsivilas and Natni-Ka-Chabutra.
City Palace is the largest palace complex in Udaipur, which extends for a long stretch along the east bank of the lake.
Gangaur Festival is held on the lake ghats.
