Shilpgram is a beautiful handicraft village turned museum, situated 3 km west of Fateh Sagar, in
Udaipur,
Rajasthan. This charming hamlet comprises 26 replica huts and showcases a wide collection of folk art with traditional architecture from Rajasthan,
Gujarat,
Goa and
Maharashtra. Singers and dancers from these western states often perform various classical and folk art forms of their region.
The annual festival held during November-January is a major draw. The timings are set between 11:00 to 19:00 hrs daily; admission rates are Rs 5 and Rs 10 for Indian and foreigners respectively.
Lodging facilities are arranged in the compound; an elegant looking solid two-storey wooden house from northern Gujarat, circular painted huts from Kutch (Gujarat), thick walled low-roofed houses from the Rajasthan deserts, and Goan potters’ hut. Performances of musicians and dancers are organized.
Badi ka Talab(5 km), dubbed as Tiger Lake - a huge man-made lake, flanked by hills, is a lovely picnic spot worth visiting.
