Nagaur Cattle Fair is one of the largest cattle fairs in India, held in January or February. It takes place at
Nagaur town, located 131 km from
Jodhpur and 45 km from
Khimsar. During this time, Nagaur turns into a sea of animals.
The fair lasts for eight days and trades thousands of horses, cattle, camels and other livestock. Farmers from as far as Punjab and Haryana come to the fair for selling and buying the cattle. The owner of these animals wearing colorful turbans and long moustaches gives a delightful picture book effect to the desert city.
Some of the excitements of the fair are cock and bullfights, camel races, folk dances and music. The mirchi bazaar (largest red-chilly market of India), wooden items, iron-crafts and camel leather accessories gives ample opportunities for shopping.
