Jaisalmer District




Jaisalmer District is situated in the western part of Rajasthan. It is surrounded by Pakistan in the north and west, Barmer in the south, Jodhpur in the east, and Bikaner in the north-east. It has a total area of 38,401 sq km. Most part of Jaisalmer lies in Thar Desert and offers nice camel safari options.

Jaisalmer is dry in nature. The average rainfall is 23 cm. Jowar, guar seed, wheat, rapeseed and mustard, groundnut, and gram are the major crops.

Marwari and Hindi are the main languages spoken. The nearest airport is at Jodhpur. The important attractions are Jaisalmer Fort, Sonar Kila, Akal Wood Fossil Park, Sam Sand Dunes, Lodurva, Kuldhara, Chintamani Parshwanath Temple, Lakshmi Nath Temple, Salim Singh-ki-Haveli, Patwon ki Haveli, and Vyas Chhatri.
