Tal Chhappar Sanctuary is located in
Churu District of
Rajasthan and is about 90 km from
Churu and 220 km from
Jaipur.
A flat saline depression, this sanctuary has a unique ecosystem. It is situated in north-western Rajasthan and thus lies on the way of the migratory passage of many birds.
Common bird species include montagu's harrier, marsh harrier, pale harrier, ben harrier, imperial eagle,
tawny eagle, short toed eagle, sparrow hawk, skylark, crested lark, ring drove, brown dove,
blue jay, green bee eaters, black ibis and demoiselle cranes.
The best time to visit is September to March.
The sanctuary is around 80 km from Mandawa. Churu Railway Station serves as the nearest railhead.
