Kiratpur Sahib

Kiratpur Sahib town, one of the major Sikh centers, is situated on the banks of Sutlej River in Rupnagar District of Punjab. It was founded and established by Baba Gurditta, son of Guru Hargobind Sahib. This town is considered sacred to the Sikhs and ashes of the dead are immersed in the river. Guru Nanak Dev Sahib, the founder of Sikhism, had blessed this town by his sacred visit.

Guru Hargobind Sahib, the 6th Sikh guru, also visited and spent his last few years here. A large number of gurdwaras dot this sacred town. Gurdwara Charan Kamal, Gurdwara Baba Gurditta, Gurdwara Pata Puri and Gurdwara Shish Mahal are some of them. The place also has a close relation with a Muslim saint, Pir Buddan Shah.

Kiratpur Sahib is 10 km south of Anandpur Sahib. Nearest airports are Ludhiana Airport and Chandigarh Airport. Kiratpur Sahib Railway Station is on the Anandpur Sahib-Rupnagar line. National Highway 21 passes nearby.
