Fatehgarh Sahib




Fatehgarh Sahib is the administrative headquarters of Fatehgarh Sahib District, in Punjab. The town is an important place of pilgrimage for the Sikhs. Fatehgarh Sahib is 50 km north of Patiala.

Fatehgarh Sahib derives its name from Baba Fateh Singh, the youngest son of Guru Gobind Singh and also on account of the fateh (victory) which Baba Banda Singh Bahadur later scored over Sirhind.

Major tourist attraction is the magnificent Gurdwara of Shri Fatehgarh Sahib. The annual fair, held in from 11th to 14th of the Bikrami calendar (generally from 25th to 27th of December), is a major draw.

The nearest airport is at Chandigarh. Fatehgarh Sahib Railway Station is connected with Morinda, Rajpura, Ludhiana and Chandigarh. By road, Fatehgarh Sahib is linked with Rupnagar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Chandigarh.
