Hirakud is located in
Sambalpur District of
Orissa. It lies about 15 km north of
Sambalpur town and about 6 km off
National Highway 6.
This town is home to the world’s largest and longest dam, the Hirakud Dam and also to the largest artificial lake in Asia. Gandhi Minar on the north and Nehru Minar on the other end of the dam, constructed on the top of two hills, is worth visiting. During winter migratory birds add to the overall excitement.
Bhubaneswar is around 265 km south-east. Nearest airport is Raipur Airport. Hirakud Railway Station is on the Sambalpur-Balangir line.
