Dundubhi is an ancient hide instrument mentioned in
Rig Veda, certain
Upanishads and Brahmanas of Veda period.
This conical drum finds a place in the two great Hindu epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata , as a martial drum. It is used during auspicious ceremonies, victory celebrations and at temples.
Dhumsa, Nissan and Nagara are the modern versions of Dundubhi.
