Jaintia Hills District is bounded by the
Brahmaputra valley of
Assam in the north and Bangladesh in the south. The principal language is
Pnar. The total population is over 200,000. The district has a pleasant climate with high rainfall. The
Jaintias are the predominant inhabitants.
Behdienkhlam is the most important festival. Private sector industries include iron and steel fabrication, furniture making and cement.
The highest peak in Jaintia Hills District is the
Marangksih Peak. Thadlaskein Lake,
Nartiang, Syndai, Lumshnong cave, Syntu Ksiar at Jowai and Dawki villages are the main attractions.
