Khargone is the administrative headquarters of the
Khargone District, in
Madhya Pradesh. It is situated on the banks of Kunda River and is about 350 km south-west of
Bhopal.
Khargone is a prominent cotton-trading center. Major tourist attractions include Maheshwar - a historic temple town, Bawangaja and Oon (14 km) (famous Jain pilgrimage centers) and Nanheshwar (20 km) - famous for ancient Shiva temples.
Devi Ahilya Bai Holeker Airport at Indore is the nearest airport. The nearest railway station is at Khandwa (90 km). By road, Khargone is linked with Barwani (90 km), Shahdol (69 km), Dindori, Sendhawa (70 km), Dhamnod (65 km) and Dhar (120 km).
