Shajapur District is situated in the north-western part of
Madhya Pradesh. It is named in honor of
Shah Jahan the Mughal Emperor who halted here in 1640. It is said that the original name was Shahjahanpur, which subsequently became Shajapur. The district has an area of 6,196 sq km and a population of one million.
Pilgrimage centers are Agar, Badod, Maksi, Nalkheda, and Shajapur. The ancient temple of Mata Bagulamukhi is very famous in Nalkheda. The Parvati, Nawaj, Kali Sindh, Ahu and Au and Lakhundar are the main rivers.
