Thazhathangadi

Thazhathangadi, known as the heritage zone, is situated 2 km north-west of Kottayam. Ancient churches, temples and mosques dot this place, which has a glorious past hidden behind its modern look.

Thazhathangadi Mosque, one of the ancient mosques in India, is an important pilgrim center of the Muslims. Sree Venkatachalapathy Tirumala Temple, built in the 19th century, also adds to the historical charm of the place. The 8th century Persian cross in the Valiyapally with ancient script inscribed on it is a major attraction. The churches known as Valiyapally and Cheriya Pally, built in the 16th century, enhances the worth of the place.

Thazhathangadi Boat Race held here in September is an important event.
