Established in 1968, the University of Calicut is a leading institution of research and higher education in
Kerala. The main campus at
Tenhippalam in
Malappuram District, is situated on a picturesque plateau about 24 km south of
Kozhikode city. The University has two Centres—at
Thrissur and Kozhikode.
The jurisdiction of the University is confined to the districts of Thrissur,
Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and
Wayanad (except the taluka of
Mananthavady). It has 25 teaching-cum-research departments for studies and research in various disciplines. The 138 affiliated colleges include professional colleges, training colleges, law colleges, and arts and science colleges.
