Wayanad




Wayanad is the most beautiful hill station in the state of Kerala. Wayanad is known for its pristine beauty, sprawling spice plantations, luxuriant forests and rich cultural traditions. Wayanad gets its name from the expression ‘land of paddy fields’.

The industrial sector in Wayanad is alive with maximum number of small-scale industries in Mananthavady and two medium scale industrial units in Sulthan Bathery. Mananthavady and Sulthan Batheri are the assembly constituencies in Wayanad District. A porcelain unit at Meenangadi is also under way. In Wayanad, pepper is planted amongst coffee plantations. As it is a tourist spot, a large number of resorts and hotels operate in Wayanad.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Thirunelli, Pazhassi tomb, the Glass Temple of Kottamunda, Pakshipathalam are some of the interesting places in Wayanad District. The two week long festival in February/March at the Valliyoorkkavu Bhagavathi Temple is an important event.

Calicut International Airport and Cochin International Airport are the nearest airports. The railway station at Kozhikode is the nearest rail head. Wayanad is well connected by road from Kozhikode, Kannur, Ooty and Mysore.
