Situated around 20 km east of Chalakudi in Thrissur District, Poringalkuthu is famous for a hydropower project.
Poringalkuthu Dam is built across Chalakudi River and a large number of birds are spotted in the Vazhachal-Poringalkuthu region. There are around 130 species of birds, including the Great eared nightjar and the Imperial pigeon. Vazhachal Forest Gardens and Waterfalls and Athirappilly Waterfalls are nearby attractions.
