The Malampuzha Garden is one of the major attractions at
Malampuzha in
Palakkad District. This includes a Japanese style rock garden, the fish-shaped aquarium, the snake park, the
ropeway which provides a bird's-eye-view of the garden and children's park.
The '
Yakshi,' the concrete sculpture of a legendary enchantress done by
Kerala's best-knowm sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman, is one of the major attractions here. This is the nude figurine of a giant woman, head flung back and hands poised to tear her hair, in sensuous exuberance and power. The Yakshi is an appropriate adornment to the glory of the landscaped gardens and the dense natural beauty of the Malampuzha Dam, called the 'temple of modern age' by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
An interesting feature of the rock garden is that it is made of and decorated with unwanted and broken pieces of bangles, tiles, used plastic cans, tins and other waste materials. The garden is a master work of sculptor Padmashree Neck Chand Saini. His best work, the rock garden in Chandigarh, is world famous and attracts thousands of tourists every year.
