Manjeri, the headquarters of Eranadu Taluk, is a major commercial town of
Malappuram District, situated 47 km to the south of
Kozhikode city, in
Kerala. It is one of the Muslim dominated areas in Kerala.
Manjeri occupies an important place in the history of Kerala. Anakkayam, situated 2 km from town, had witnessed the Sipahi Lahala (Muslim revolution) of 1921. Anti- British riots took place in and around Manjeri even as early as 1790.
Major attraction here is the Karikkad Subramania temple, noted for its unique architectural style. The annual Manjeri Pooram festival held in April at the temple of Trikkalangode is attended by lot of people from nearby areas.
Nearest airport is Calicut Airport(25 km). Regular bus services connect Manjeri with Palakkad, Thrissur and Kozhikode. Vaniyambalam Railway Station and Melattur Railway Station are the nearest railway stations. Nilambur Road Railway Station is a major station nearby.
