One of the prominent towns in
Kollam District of
Kerala, Kundara attracts the visitors by its historic importance. It was from here that Velu Thampi Dalawa, the Diwan of the erstwhile Travancore Province, issued the famous Kundara Vilambaram in 1809. Kundara is about 18 km from
Kollam.
The town is well-known for the China clay deposits. These deposits helped in the establishment of the Government Ceramics concerns here. Aluminium Industries (ALIND), one of the leading Indian firms manufacturing aluminium cables, is situated here.
Kundara Railway Station, the local railhead, is on the Kollam-Sivakasi rail route. Nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport.
