The town is believed to be the birth place of Lord Hanuman. It is named after Goddess Anjana, the mother of Hanuman. Anjani Gufa (cave) upon a hill is a noted attraction of Anjan. An idol of mother Anjana with Hanuman on her lap is enshrined at this cave.
