Shyok is located at a height of about 12,335 ft above sea level in
Leh District of
Jammu and Kashmir. It lies to the east of
Leh and is about seven kilometers from
Durgu.
The Nubra River joins with the Changchenmo River at this place to form the Shyok River. It has its origin from the Khumdang Glacier which can be accessed from Shyok Valley.
Lhabap lies to the west of Shyok whereas Phobrang is to the east. Heweitan and Darbuk are towards the north and south. A trekking route from Zingral towards Tangyar passes through Shyok.
Shyok can be approached from Rongdu, Igu and Muglib.
