Nubra Valley, situated at an altitude of 3048 m, is nestled between
Karakorams and the
Himalayas. This ideal spot with breathtaking views is in Ladakh region of
Jammu and Kashmir. The major attraction is the
Khardung la pass, one of the highest mountain pass in the world. At the head of the Nubra Valley is the
Siachen Glacier, the longest glacier in the Karakoram.
The valley’s mountain backbone faces the rivers Nubra and Shyok towards east and west respectively. Shyok Valley, formed by the Shyok River, is a place worth visiting.
The village of Deskit, the capital of Nubra, is situated about 118 km from Leh. It encompasses an old monastery, Deskit Monastery. Other attractions are Hundar, Tirit, Samstemling Gompa at Sumur, Ensa Monastery and Panamik.
The best time to visit the valley is during the summer months from June to August.
