Samstemling is a 150-year-old
gompa, situated at Sumur, a major village on the banks of the
Nubra River in Jammu and Kashmir.
Nestled on the high mountains of Leh District, it is a large complex with seven temples and was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 1962. This friendly place is home to some young monks, who make themselves busy with the cultivation of apples and apricots. The prayer hall, which is open to the public, has a large collection of Thangkas and carefully restored murals.
