Durbuk

Located at an altitude of 13,500 feet above sea level, Durbuk is a block bordering India and China in Leh District. The area is a stretch of mountain range in north-eastern Ladakh, to the north of Chang Thang. Durbuk block was carved out of Nyoma block in 1977. Durbuk is to the south-west of Shayok River, which flows through the village.

One of the coldest, remote and backward blocks of the district, the temperature in the area drops to -45° C in the winter. The block has five villages and consists of 21 hamlets. Being a backward block, the cultivation of the place amounts to about 22 per cent and hence the area is mono-cropped. Durbuk also houses an indoor stadium and an open stadium.

Lukung and Pangong Lake up to Spangmik are at a short drive away from Durbuk. Changla ascent comprises 9 sharp hairpin bends on the Durbuk side. Durbuk can be approached on the Changla – Tangste route.
