Baralacha pass (Baralacha La) signifies the divide between the main
Himalayas and Lahaul Range, and also between Himalayas and the
Baralacha Range, which extends north to the Zanskar. Situated at a stupendous height of 16,400 ft, the 8 km long Baralacha pass extending from Spiti to
Ladakh, is counted one among the best trekking passes. Trekking routes from Zanskar, Ladakh and Lahaul converge here. The
Chandra and the
Bhaga, the two rivers of Lahaul emerge from either side of the pass.
The trekking conducted here lasts for 18 days which covers Manali,
Batal, Chandra Tal, Tokping Yongma and Baralacha and back down to Manali. The best time for trekking is from mid-July to September.
