Kullu District, was founded by Nicholas Roerich in 1928. Formerly, it was a research institute, where history, ethos, the spirit of the Himalayan region, and the traditional Indian and Tibetan medicines were studied.
A fine collection of embroidered items and folk arts are displayed here. Russian artifacts, musical instruments, dolls and dishes are some of them. Popular of the exhibits are the paintings made by Roerichs and other Indian and Russian artists.
Stone carvings of gods, wood carvings, crystal pieces and some quotations from Agniyoga are among the vivid collectibles. The traditional costumes of Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Tibet and
Ladakh are also housed here.
The museum is open to the public from Tuesdays to Sundays from 09:00 to 17:00 hrs.
