Dangs District alternatively called 'The Dangs,' is a hilly, thickly-forested tribal district of
Gujarat. It is situated high in the
Saputara hills, Gujarat's most famous hill station. Dangs covers 1,760 sq km, and has an average rain fall of about 1,900 mm. The headquarters is
Ahwa.
Dangs is amply blessed by nature and is noted for its beautiful teak forests.
The forests are home for wild animals such as tigers, chital, bears, pigs, and deer. Snakes including cobras and pythons are found here.
Mahal Bardipara wildlife sanctuary and the spectacular Gira Waterfalls are nearby attractions. The week-long tribal fair named Dangs Durbar is held at Ahwa one week before Holi in the month of March. An interesting place to visit is the tribal museum, begun to familiarize visitors with the culture and tradition of various tribal communities such as the Bhils, Kunbis, Gamits, and Warlis. Tribal weapons and utensils are also exhibited.
