Azad Maidan is a grassy square in front of the
Menezes Braganza Institute, formerly called Institute Vasco da Gama. The maidan is situated at Dr Pissurlenkar Road in
Panaji,
Goa. It is lined on one side by the Police Headquarters, built in 1832 with stones from Old Goa's abandoned buildings.
The pavilion dating to the mid 16th century in the center was built in 1847, using Corinthian pillars taken from a Dominican church. The pavilion contains two memorials, one dedicated to Dr Tristao de Braganza Cunha (a prominent Goan freedom fighter) and another to Martyr's.
The nearest railway station is the Karmali Railway Station. Goa Airport is about 30 km from Panaji.
