Bicholim, the seat of administration of Bicholim Taluk, is a major educational and cultural center in
North Goa. It is home to many of Goa's large mining sites of manganese and iron-ores. Bicholim is situated 35 km north-east of
Panaji - the capital city of
Goa.
Mayem, an artificial lake located in the Bicholim city, is an ideal picnic spot.
Arvalem waterfalls, situated 9 km south of Bicholim town, is another major draw. Other places of interest include Shri Saptakoteshwar Temple, Shree Mahadev Bhumika Temple, Shree Vittal Mandir Temple,
Shree Lairai Temple, Shree Datta Mandir and Shree Rudreshwar Temple.
The various folk art forms of Bicholim are Dhalo Dance, Fugdi, Zemado, Shigmo-mel, Morulem, Ghode Modni,
Viramel, and Chowrang.
The nearest airport is at
Dabolim. Regular buses connect Bicholim with Mapusa and Panaji.
