Saurashtra (also spelt Soruth and Sorath) was a former state in India, located on the
Kathiawar peninsula, in
Gujarat. Saurashtra is a large knob of land bounded by hills in the south, marshes in the north out to the
Arabian Sea, Gulf of Cambay in its east and Gulf of Kutch in its west. Saurashtra has some of India’s finest temples. The main attractions are the national park in Gir Forest, the national park at Velvadar,
Porbandar (the birth place of Gandhiji), museum in
Rajkot, and the island of Diu.
