Kathiawar peninsula, part of
Gujarat, is situated in western India. It is surrounded by the
Rann of Kutch on the north, the Gulf of Kutch on the northwest, the
Arabian Sea on the west and south, the Gulf of Cambay on the southeast and east. The major cities are
Jamnagar on the Gulf of Kutch,
Bhavnagar on the Gulf of Cambay,
Porbandar on the west coast, and
Rajkot. In the south coast of Kathiawar is the Diu town. The south central portion of the peninsula is flanked with the Gir Hills.
Gir National Park, famous for the Gir Lions,
Velavadar National Park on the Gulf of Cambay and
Marine National Park, on the Gulf of Kutch near Jamnagar are the important national parks. Major cultivations are cotton, wheat, and millet. Industries include stone quarries, cement and chemical industries.
The major railway stations in the peninsula are
Jamnagar Railway Station, Rajkot Railway Station and
Porbandar Railway Station. Bhavnagar Port is the chief sea port of Kathiawar. Major airports are Jamnagar Airport, Rajkot Airport and Porbandar Airport.
