Munger District is located in the southern part of
Bihar. It has a population of around one million and an area of 3,122 sq km. The district headquarters,
Munger, is on the southern bank of
river Ganges. The Mohane, Harohar, and Kiul are other major rivers.
Munger has monsoon sub-tropical climate ranging from sub-dry and sub-humid conditions. The average annual rainfall is 1,231 mm. Paddy, wheat, pulses and lentils are the important agricultural products. A gun factory and the India tobacco factory are also located here.
The prominent tourist attractions are Bhimbandh, Kharagpur Lake, Chandika Astahan, Pir Shah Nafah Shrine, Kastaharni Ghat, Sita Kund, Manpathar, Ucheswar Nath, Goenka Sivalaya, Sri Krishna Vatika, Pirpahar, Malnipahar and Maruk.
