Singri, 30 km to the west of
Tezpur in Upper
Assam, is a trading settlement in
Sonitpur District. It is bounded by Barchola (5.4 nm) in the west,
Dhekiajuli (6.1 nm) in the north, Gabharu (10.2 nm) in the east and Dhing (8.0 nm) in the south.
Prime attraction of the town is the Singri Temple, situated on the banks of the Brahmaputra River and dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is one of the two rock temples in Assam. Singri is believed to be the place of the ancient kingdom Durjoya under King Brahmapala . As mentioned by the great master Jigme Lingpa in the 18th century, Singri has been the pilgrimage site for Tibetans and Bhutanese, since the 14th century.
The nearest airport and railway station are at Tezpur.
