Makunda is a small village in eastern
Assam in
Karimganj District. It is 53 km away from the district headquarters of
Karimganj. This remote village is famous for a hospital for lepers, called Makunda Christian Leprosy and General Hospital. It was established by the American Mid-Baptist Mission in 1951, for patients suffering from leprosy.
Makunda is strategically located 4 km from the National Highway 44, 25 km from Mizoram and 13 km from Tripura. Lowairpowa is the nearby village, well connected by overnight bus with Guwahati. Karimganj Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
